People from all walks of life come to visit the various galleries in Bucks County on a yearly basis. City dwellers seeking alternatives to the hustle and bustle have been drawn to the quiet and picturesque location for many years. The area houses some of the most outstanding galleries for art collectors and enthusiasts to enjoy. The Stover Mill Gallery, Show More...along the Delaware River in Erwinna has been featuring the art of local artists since 1959 and has featured many strong shows over the years. Next month's solo exhibition featuring minimalistic landscape painter, Kristine Keating, is no exception. Keating's work has almost an esoteric feel due to its dark tones, deep texture and her focus on shadow and light. This upcoming show titled "Inner Integration" is a great example of her popular 'Shadowlands' series that can only be fully appreciated in person, as the subtle qualities of her paintings are lost in reproduction. The artist reception is on April 1 from 1-5 pm. The refreshments include fresh pressed juices, raw gourmet cheeses and vegan desserts.. ...Show Less

BUCKS COUNTY SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA SPRING CONCERT

The Bucks County Symphony Orchestra, under the leadership of Music Director Gary S. Fagin, announces its annual Spring Concert, to be held at Central Bucks High School South on Saturday, April 29, 2017, at 8:00 pm.

The concert is sponsored by Tom and Judy Newman. A special highlight of the evening will be an observance of Maestro Fagin's 15th Show More...anniversary as Music Director of the BCSO.

Featured in the program are members of the distinguished Brown-Urioste-Canellakis Trio, joining the BCSO in a powerful performance of Beethoven's Concerto for Piano, Violin, and Cello (Triple Concerto). Pianist Michael Brown has been described by The New York Times as a "young piano visionary" and "one of the leading figures in the current renaissance of performer-composers." His unique artistry is reflected in a creative approach to programming that often interweaves the classics with contemporary works and his own compositions. Violinist Elena Urioste has been hailed by critics and audiences alike for her lush tone, the nuanced lyricism of her playing, and her commanding stage presence. Since first appearing with the Philadelphia Orchestra at age thirteen, she has given acclaimed performances with major orchestras throughout the United States. Cellist Nicholas Canellakis has been hailed by the The New Yorker as a "superb young soloist," and has become one of the most sought-after and innovative cellists of his generation, captivating audiences throughout the United States and abroad. The New York Times described his playing as "impassioned" and "soulful," with "the audience seduced by Mr. Canellakis's rich, alluring tone."

The BCSO opens the concert with Wagner's "Entrance of the Gods into Valhalla", from the closing scene of Das Rheingold, first in a series of four music dramas comprising the composer's Ring cycle. The music depicts Wotan, ruler of the gods, leading his fellow deities across a rainbow bridge into their new home, Valhalla, where they believe they will live as heroes for all eternity.

The Orchestra's 64th season concludes with a performance of Saint-Saëns' Symphony No. 3, popularly known as the Organ Symphony because of the inclusion of that majestic instrument in several places throughout the piece. Commissioned by the Royal Philharmonic Society and premiered in London in 1886, this Symphony was dedicated to the memory of Saint-Saëns' dear friend and supporter, Franz Liszt. Timothy Harrell, organist and choirmaster of Trinity Episcopal Church in Solebury, will be the guest performer for this work. Having earned a Master of Music degree in organ performance and church music at Westminster Choir College, Mr. Harrell has also served as organist at Doylestown Presbyterian Church, Trinity Episcopal Cathedral in Trenton, and Lehigh University.. ...Show Less

Hello! We are a group of animal loving volunteers who are hosting a kid friendly "pizza and beer raffle" fundraiser event/party to raise money for 3 dog and cat non-profit Rescues. An amazing rescue in the Dominican Republic; rescatame.org and 2 local American non-profit rescues; Cattalesinc.org and Caring Canine Connections (thecccrescue.com).

*There Show More...will be a fun DJ and dancing, all you can eat and drink pizza and beer, softdrinks, juice, snacks, wine for purchase, lots of AWESOME raffle baskets and prizes for raffle and WIN, a 50/50, adult and kids games and activities, face-painting and more! Come bring out your friends and family and party for a GREAT cause!

Our story starts here:
On a recent vacation, we witnessed the horror of animal suffering going on in the Dominican Republic and everywhere. While trying to feed some of the thousands of stray homeless dogs and cats in the area, we stumbled upon a litter of tiny puppies living under a pile of trash (in pictures) who were starving, sick, injured and had wounds crawling with maggots. Our goal with our fundraiser is to raise enough money to save and find loving homes for this litter of puppies and to fund several 'spay and neuter'/ 'catch and release' programs and events that 'Rescatame' and' 'Cat Tales' run, that fix up to 500 dogs and cats per event. These events help so much in controlling the outrageous and growing population of homeless and unwanted dogs and cats that are put down and suffer every single day. Each one of these rescues are non-profit, government certified, no kill rescues and they are all run by amazing volunteers. 'Caring Canine Connections', a dog rescue in New Jersey, is taking in the homeless puppies once they fly into America on April 18th. They all do so much good for our beloved animals, let's do what we can to help them keep saving lives!

Every penny of the proceeds of our event will be split among the three rescues to help keep them funded so they can continue saving lives.

When the Academy of the New Church Secondary Schools student production of Disney and Cameron Mackintosh's Mary Poppins comes to the stage in Bryn Athyn this April and May, audiences won't believe their eyes! Singing! Dancing! Flying!

Wait. Flying? In a high school student production?

Well, of course. As Mary Poppins has said, "Anything Show More...can happen if you let it." Members of the cast are going to be airborne for several scenes, thanks to fantastical aerial effects created by theatrical flight service Flying by Foy, the international company that put four Peter Pans in the air over Broadway stages beginning in 1950 and has "flown" thousands of performers since then.

And it's going to be magical.

"We've worked with Foy twice in the past," says Sarah Cooper Waelchli, producer of the school's spring musical. "Our Bert has been rehearsing his tap dancing all spring break in preparation for his flying tap dance scene.

"The students were very excited to work on Mary Poppins. It's a show they're all familiar with, the flying is thrilling and slightly terrifying, and while the music has been challenging for our actors and pit orchestra, the songs are just so much fun."

Cooper Waelchli also noted that Mary Poppins gives the cast and audiences more light-hearted fare, after the more intense Oliver! for last year's spring musical.

One of the most popular Disney movies of all time, Mary Poppins tell the story of young Jane and Michael Banks in 1910 England, their friend Bert and nanny extraordinaire Mary. Through magical adventures and common sense lessons, Mary helps reconnect the children and their father and teaches the Banks family members to value each other again.

For audiences of all ages, ANCSS's magical Mary Poppins at Mitchell Performing Arts Center (MPAC) in Bryn Athyn blends irresistible story, unforgettable songs, breathtaking dance numbers and astonishing stagecraft.

Declan Durand, ANCSS junior from Bryn Athyn, who took flight above MPAC's stage once before as Peter Pan in 2015, plays the singing, dancing, jack-of-all-trades Bert. Brianna Salvatori, a senior from Maple Glen, is Mary Poppins, flying in by umbrella to serve as the children's nanny. Freshman Hayden Hoffman and sophomore Serena Boyesen, both from Bryn Athyn, are Michael and Jane Banks. [Attached is the full cast, with grades and hometowns.)

This year's production of Mary Poppins is directed by Sarah Gladish & Chris Waelchli, with choreography by Sarah Gladish assisted by Rachel Boyce. Chris Waelchli is Music Director, assisted by Simon Daum. Donna Bostock is Pit Orchestra Director. Set Design & Construction is by ANCSS StageCraft Class (taught by Chris Waelchli) and Costume Designer is Judy Merrell. The show is produced by Sarah Cooper Waelchli.. ...Show Less

"My fascination with painting the figure in natural settings has never waned. It is the human story on

understand that when you're young and seemingly unimportant, yet as we gain worldly experience
we realize how special our stories truly are." - (from Fine Art Connoisseur Magazine, 2014). ...Show Less

A new exhibit at Pearl S. Buck International shares the stories of Jewish communities in China over millennia. These stories intrigued Pearl S. Buck and her husband Richard Walsh so much that each explored them in their published works. Ms. Buck wrote the novel "Peony" and the play "Flight into China" on the subject. Mr. Walsh included scholarly articles Show More...about the topic in his publication, "Asia" magazine.

Jews settled in China as tradespeople on the silk road. They had strong communities and became part of society. One of the largest communities was in K'aifeng. A stele (stone tablet) commemorates the construction of a synagogue there in 1163, but by the 1850s there were only remnants of the building standing and most families had assimilated.

Part of the exhibit at Pearl S. Buck International is a retelling, through words and photos, of one Jewish family's flight from Nazi Germany into China. Packed in the luggage was a copy of "The Good Earth" which descendants presume was carried so far in order to become part of a lending library established during their stay in China.

In 1970, the Museum of Modern Art challenged the then-popular notion that photographs were "taken rather than made" in the genre-expanding exhibition Photography into Sculpture. Curator Peter Bunnell highlighted artists ranging from the physicality of alternative chemical processes to three dimensional works on unusual substrates. The core of Charles Sheeler: Fashion, Photography, and Sculptural Form, however, are the 85 portraits and fashion photographs Show More...on loan from the Condé Nast archives in New York. Additionally, visitors will see for the first time Sheeler's own textile designs, which he produced in the early 1930s. These will be accompanied by a photograph Sheeler took of his dealer, Edith Halpert, wearing a dress made from his textiles, standing between two of his recent industrial paintings. Pieces of the original dress, as well as a recreation of it, will also be included in one of the multi-media vignettes.. ...Show Less
